Big Brother Big Sisters of South-Central PA Recognizes 127 High School Graduates

Harrisburg, PA (May 28, 2024) –  Big Brothers Big Sisters of South-Central PA (BBBSSCPA) recognizes high school seniors for graduation and scholarship presentation.

BBBSSCPA hosted a graduation celebration and award ceremony at The State Museum of PA on Wednesday, May 21, to recognize 127 graduating high school seniors in their program. The organization recognized both mentees (Littles) and volunteer high school mentors (Bigs). The graduating seniors hail from 23 local high schools across Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry & York Counties.

Among the recognized graduates are mentees who participated in BBBSSCPA’s Beyond School Walls workforce development program. The Beyond School Walls program connects high school students with mentors from area businesses and guides the students in developing professional and life skills.

Four graduates addressed their peers and spoke about the positive impact mentorship has on their lives and the importance of embracing leadership roles as they step into the next stage of their lives.

BBBSSCPA President & CEO Amy Rote spoke to attendees, “Today, as we celebrate our graduates, we also celebrate the collective effort of everyone in this room. It takes a village to raise a child, and your contributions—whether as parents, mentors, educators, staff, board —have played a crucial role in shaping these remarkable young individuals.”

A total of $17,000 in scholarships were awarded to graduating seniors thanks to: BBBSSCPA’s Elliott Riegler Scholarship ($1,000), Capital Blue Cross (eight $1,000 scholarships), the Hall Foundation (two $1,000 scholarships), Junior League of Harrisburg ($1,500), Stonebridge Financial Group (two $1,000 scholarships), and Endowments (five $500 scholarships).
