Martin Library Event Celebrates Unity in the Community

YORK, PA – Martin Library will host the Eighth Annual Cultural Jam from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 17 at the library. Teens at Martin Library and the YMCA of the Roses unite annually to celebrate Welcoming Week, September 12–21, by offering this multi-age event for the whole community. There is no cost to attend.

“The goal of this event is to educate, enlighten and inform,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert.“The Cultural Jam is designed to bring neighbors together for the opportunity to build community and enjoy food, music, dance, art, and history.”
This year’s event will feature local artists, performers, authors, community organizations, restaurants and shop owners. Community members are invited to sample a variety of cuisine from local restaurants including the Global Café, Skillet2Plate Soul Bistro, Rapadou Caribbean Restaurant and Compare Fresh while listening to live music.  And community members are invited to sign up for a library card. In addition, there will be STEM activities, an art station, button making, dancing, ping pong, pool, foosball, gaming and a community drum circle. To maintain safety, all children twelve and under must be supervised by an adult at all times.

“The Cultural Jam is one of Martin Library’s most popular events,” says Martin Library Director Mina Edmondson. “The library is a safe place for everyone in our community. This event provides a fun opportunity to learn more about each other and our library services. We hope that everyone will come out for great food, great company, and great unity in the community.”
