Martin Library to Host Block Party June 1
Martin Library’s 2025 Block Party and SummerQuest Kickoff will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 1. It will be held outside the library on Queen Street, between Market Street and Philadelphia Street. The free event will feature a variety of family-friendly activities and the opportunity to register for SummerQuest.
“This is our fourth annual block party for community members of all ages. Each year, we look forward to welcoming everyone to the library for a day of entertainment,” says Martin Library Director Mina Edmondson.
“We are excited to announce that block party favorite, the Temple Guard, is performing again this year. They always get the crowd moving and having fun!”
In addition to the Temple Guard, YCL Teen BeatWay Studio DJ students will provide music accompanied bychildren at the block party adding their beats on bucket drums. Block party attendees can also play supersized games, meet therapy dogs, do a fingerprint safety kit, and make giant bubbles with York’s Bubble Lady Debbie Flaum. There will also be an opportunity to see firetrucks up close and the York County Office of Emergency Management’s Mobile Command Unit. Free box lunches will be provided to children while supplies last, and food trucks will be set up on Market Street for anyone interested in purchasing something to eat.
There will also be time to sign up for a free library card and register for this year’s “Color Our World” SummerQuest and Get Outdoors (GO) York program. According to Edmondson, not only can children andteens from birth to 18 sign up for the SummerQuest, but adults 19 and above can participate in a summer program designed just for them.
“Our Martin Library staff really enjoys taking the fun and activities that happen inside the library out onto the streets during this annual celebration,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “The block party holds nostalgic memories of childhood for adults and new memories for the young. It is a great way for the community to come together”
Thanks to the support of The Maple Press Company as the Presenting Sponsor, the festivities are free to attend.Martin Library is located at 159 E. Market Street in York.
